As part of our ongoing commitment to inspiring more young people to take up engineering careers, we recognise the importance of STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) subjects. Supporting tomorrow’s skills today, we present the opportunity to learn and explore these key subjects during a variety of virtual and in-person events.
At this moment there’s a lack of focus on engineering within the national curriculum across the devolved administrations of England, Scotland, and Wales. This, coupled with the reported shortage of STEM teachers, means that student’s have limited knowledge of the available opportunities.
The lack of awareness and understanding undoubtedly contribute to the lack of engineers in the UK. Understanding the importance of filling this skills shortage, our PPMA BEST ambassadors strive to give students more opportunities for participation in STEM careers-related activities.
Focused on bridging the education gap, PPMA BEST is working with secondary schools and colleges to present the opportunity for fully-funded participation in one-day STEM workshops. In completing these workshops students will gain a better understanding of subjects and career choices across such fields as engineering and manufacturing.
Often sponsored by PPMA member companies, the workshops provide students with the opportunity to meet experienced engineers from across the processing & packaging, robotics, and automation, or industrial vision industries.
