AMID the COVID-19 crisis, Yorkshire-based PFM Packaging Machinery has pledged that all spare parts can be delivered to another UK and the Republic of Ireland address within 24 hours. This included emergency parts that need to be shipped directly from Italy.
As a key supplier of packaging machinery to the meat, cheese, fresh produce and medical sectors, PFM understands that many FMCG factories are having to significantly increase output as a result of the crisis, which is placing extra strain on their packaging machinery. As result, PFM has amassed large qualities of stock and has implemented rapid turnaround times for stock new machinery orders, spare parts and servicing.
PFM’s own European production facilities are continuing to function in line with current Government guidance, with the company’s factories running at c. 90% of full capacity. And while most staff are working from home, PFM has ensured that its engineers are still working from the Leeds operation and/or out on the road are “following stringent hygiene practices and social distancing”.
Due to the importance of protecting consumers and mitigating the spread of COVID-19, PFM has put arrangements in place for ‘super quick’ turnaround times for certain stock items of machinery. For example, those required to wrap items like fresh bread, which previously would have been left unpackaged and exposed.
Furthermore, PFM is continuing to provide pre-product packaging trials for items like wet wipes and medical products, and pharmaceuticals destined for the NHS. They have also started to work with suppliers of oxygen piping for medical facilities.
