Joshua initially enrolled on the foundation course for MEng Mechanical Engineering at the University of Portsmouth, proving himself to be one of the best students in the cohort. Joshua’s academic results were consistently above average throughout the course, and he graduated with a Distinction.
During his undergraduate course, Joshua was an active member of the Formula Student team and played a key role in developing an electric car concept which has won the IMechE competition at Silverstone. In the final year of his MEng degree Joshua was the Team Leader, coordinating the team of more than 50 students. External to the competition, Joshua spent a year in industry when he gained invaluable experience, this allowed him to achieve his EngTech professional registration at the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE).
Following his graduation, Joshua enrolled on a PhD programme in October 2021. His research is currently focused on surface modifications of 3D printed products – an incredibly important topic with numerous applications, which could lead to great advances in additive manufacturing approaches, where he has already started experimental work. The Grant Jamieson Engineering Scholarship would make a real difference and allow Josh to continue with his PhD studies. Joshua acts as mentor for current formula students and his junior peers, guiding them and passing on his knowledge and experience. Joshua has held a Student Ambassador role for many years, activity participating in Open day events and promoting engineering to new generations. With his exceptional academic background, unparalleled work ethics, diverse engineering interests and achievements and vast potential. PPMA wishes Joshua all the success for the future.
