The UniPure S from Krones uses centrifugal force as a means of separating solids from a range of liquids, with possible applications taking in food, drink and recycling.
While the established UniPure F model works with filter candles, the UniPure S decanter uses a centrifuge for reliable separation of solids from liquids, says the company, with the range of bowl diameters running from 220 to 800mm.
As well as food and drink applications, the UniPure S can be used for separation in, for example, plastics recycling. Speeds of up to 5,100RPM can reach a centrifugal acceleration of 3,200G, says Krones.
In food and drink, it can remove particles, suspended matter and microorganisms from juices, oils, dairy products and plant-based raw materials. But it can also provide gentle handling for sensitive products like yogurt, cream or fruit chunks, without impairing their texture. According to Krones, the technical heart of the process is a screw conveyor located inside the bowl that continuously moves the separated solids to the discharge area.
With a maximum capacity of three tons per hour and a hydraulic throughput of seven cubic metres an hour, says the company, the UniPure S boasts a level of performance suitable for large material volumes, if required.
The design of the system eliminates all dead spaces, Krones claims, to prevent product residues, facilitating cleaning and also meeting even the most stringent hygiene standards. At the same time, its sturdy construction is said to ensure a high level of reliability, minimal downtime and low operating costs. The UniPure S is available with ATEX certification for flammable products like spirits.
