Rulmeca RDR drive roller BL3 solution combined with IO-link control board

Rulmeca Drive Rollers are designed to play a key role in industrial applications that make transport on rollers an important part of their production processes.

The Rulmeca RDR Drive Roller BL3 solution is the ideal choice in terms of available speeds and torques. Requires less energy consumption than a traditional Lineshaft conveyor. This is due to the fact that the motor power is only 40W, whereas a traditional Lineshaft conveyor is powered by an external gearbox from 300W to 370W.

While multiple RDRs are required, only the zones/conveyor sections needed can be powered, based on a timeout function. Therefore, even in times of low productivity, it is not necessary to feed the entire conveyor to move a single product.

Depending on the characteristics of the handled packages, the overall configuration of the system, as well as the environmental conditions, it is possible to select the most suitable execution capable of satisfying the most varied handling needs, in conditions of maximum safety and efficiency of use.

The Drive Roller, in addition to being classified as a safe system because it is powered by 24V direct current, constitutes an extremely silent, compact, efficient solution with a long working life without requiring maintenance of its functional parts.

The motor group, its technological heart, in the standard execution is housed in a 50 mm diameter tube, with a finish agreed with the customer.

For a correct choice of the reduction ratio, which defines the rotation speed and the available torque, it is necessary to take into account the weight, dimensions, material and support base of the packages to be transported, as well as the desired transfer speed and the dynamics of conveyor operation.

In order to guarantee an optimal control action of the RDR Drive Roller BL3, Rulmeca has entered into a partnership with Pepperl+Fuchs, a world leader in the supply of sensors and components for the global automation market. The G20 IO-Link rollerdrive motor control module provides real-time information on run-time, number of stops/starts and number of faults.

The fields of application of this solution are many: from the automation of the assembly line for simplified modifications of the product to intralogistics environments, from the use of overhead conveyors to avoid any product collisions to machine tools that speed up the configuration by decreasing the possibility of human error, as well as in end-of-line and packaging applications to validate machine processes.
