Shelf-ready tray and carton blanks can be loaded on to packing line in multiple ways

Demonstrating versatility in its system design, Schubert has spelt out the benefits of combining vertical stacks of board blanks with its erector robot and easy reload system.

When packing bars, for example, into retail-ready trays or cartons, the machine builder is offering an alternative to the erection frame with a pallet magazine and Comfort Feeder. Instead, with the single-lane A3 erector robot, stacks of blanks can be placed vertically into the magazine. Depending on the blank size, two stacks with a maximum height of 1,200mm can be positioned one behind the other. The main packaging operation on the machine remains the same.

In one variant, the vertical stacks hold 4,000 blanks, ensuring that the machine can continuously pull, glue, erect and seal blanks for a full 60 minutes. Schubert says its proven A3 erector, launched in 2024, will erect boxes in a single lane at 60 cycles per minute. “This paves the way for exceptionally reliable automated processes,” claims marketing manager Julia Junker.

This choice of options, she says, and the ability to retrofit alternative magazine arrangements, reflects the fact that production and packaging requirements are rarely set in stone. “And packaging lines used by manufacturers in the food industry and other sectors need to be just as versatile,” she adds.

When the stacked magazine needs reloading, users can refill it with blanks in just a few minutes, says Schubert. A magazine table that can be moved upwards and downwards takes the strain out of this step, since it can be reloaded at an ergonomic working height. “Well thought-out solutions have always been a Schubert hallmark. And we have taken this approach to the next level with the vertical magazine and new tool,” adds Junker.

This vertical-stack configuration was shown in operation at Ipack-Ima, Milan, earlier this year.
