An adhesive application workshop was helped by collaborative robots to optimise pallet stabilisation

Meler, HMI-MBS and Universal Robots pooled their know-how earlier this year to demonstrate how cobotics could optimise adhesive application at the end of the line.

The logistics sector has been quick to implement the combination of both technologies: cobotics and adhesive application because of the production benefits they bring to the profitability of the end-of-line, says the company. Occupational risks related to loading and transporting of goods are reduced and operators can focus on other, higher value-added tasks.

Sylvain Pitard, sales director of Meler’s French subsidiary, and Julien Plault, HMI-MBS sales technician, explained during the workshop two real cases of adhesive application in palletising processes.

The first involved the automatic application of adhesive on the moving box, the loading of the box and stacking on the pallet with a cobot and then the formation of a compact batch ready for transport. The second presentation involved the loading of the goods with a cobot, the automatic application of the adhesive on the box suspended in the air by the cobot and then moving and positioning of the goods at another point of the working line.

However, the interest from industrial users in introducing these technologies is not just about cost efficiency and safety. By introducing the application of adhesives, companies can also eliminate the use of single-use packaging materials and achieve excellent results in the unification of goods. It is this ecological aspect that continues to drive many companies to change their end-of-line installations.

At the end of the demonstration there was a question-and-answer session in which attendees received personalised advice for the implementation of new projects. The objective of this event was to improve the future of industrial adhesive application and more events are planned for the future.
