Bagmaker aims for higher output and simpler, more efficient plants

9 June 2026

TNA has previewed a new vertical form-fill-seal machine designed to boost output per tube and so simplify customers’ machinery requirements.

Taking pride of place on the TNA Solutions stand at interpack was the next-generation tna robag Quantum, which the company says is engineered to help food manufacturers increase throughput, simplify operations and respond faster to changing market demands.

“Snack manufacturers are under pressure to produce more packs, more variety and more value, without adding complexity to the factory floor,” says group product innovation manager Simon Hill. The new machine allows manufacturers to increase output per tube rather than simply adding more machines. “The result is a simpler, more efficient line that supports higher overall equipment effectiveness (OEE), lower waste and faster routes to profitability.”

Running through the detail on the stand, general manager at TNA Europe Steve Burgess underlined how improved access, cleaning and ergonomics are key to the new design. “The front of the machine opens completely for easier maintenance and cleaning,” he told Machinery Update. “We offer toolless changeover as far as possible.” In terms of hygiene, there are sloping surfaces and no bolts on the outside of the machine.

“The new film spindle system scans the loaded film and automatically centres it on the machine,” Burgess explained. The film auto-splice unit takes just 12 seconds to weld one roll to the next, losing operators less time.

Other details include easier access to the date-coder, which offers integrated code verification to confirm that the correct product is in the correct bag, a more manoeuvrable human-machine interface (HMI) and sealing jaws which can be height-adjusted to suit the format.

“More trials are running paper-based packaging materials,” he said. “The machine runs materials from 25 up to 70 or 80 microns, which would typically be paper laminates.” The bagger was shown at interpack with a 14-head multihead weigher mounted above it. An HMI console and camera were installed on the upper level.
