Pharmaceutical filling line runs single-dose form-fill-seal even for paper-based formats

Excel Packaging Machinery is supplying a Valmatic line able to respond to rising demand in both pharmaceuticals and personal care for single-dose options – not just as samples.

According to Excel, Valmatic is pioneering a new standard in pharmaceutical packaging with its form-fill-seal (FFS) machines, designed specifically for the production and filling of liquid and semi-liquid products into single-dose containers.

Director Andy Skittrall points out that this type of packaging is gaining traction in the pharmaceutical industry for its ability to offer precise dosing and improved product safety. Valmatic’s Val56 FFS lines, he adds, allow companies to create products ideal for promotional samples, testers, or full-scale retail items, suited for distribution across pharmacies, online platforms and stores.

“This cutting-edge technology offers hygienic, safe and flexible packaging solutions for a variety of pharmaceutical applications, including supplements, vitamins, disinfectants, topical treatments, nasal drops, and certain medical devices,’’ he says.

The system reaches speeds of 40 strokes per minute, Excel explains, with in-line printing making the end user independent of external suppliers. The line offers the possibility of producing even small batches for presentation or sampling, for example, without wasting product. The main station of the Val56 and each single filling syringe are servo-operated and managed from an HMI panel offering simple control, it adds, even for less expert operators.

“What makes Val56 stand out are the amazing innovations built into the machine,” says fellow director Jon Pym. These include, he says: print-centring on both sides of the substrate; the range of filling settings; the ability to fill two different products; and the option of filling flat-bottom stand-up containers.

Fill volume can be between 0.2ml and 150ml.

A recent development has been PAPERDOSE, a new range of single-dose packaging of variable capacity from 1 to 50 ml and incorporating recyclable paper certified by Italy’s Aticelca industry association and sourced from FSC forests.
