'What’s new in vision? How to drive UK business and technical trends'
With over 35 years of senior management experience in the imaging and machine vision sector, Mark Williamson specialises in advising companies to maximise growth beyond that of the market. His career in machine vision, which began in 1989, has spanned both start-up ventures and established market leaders, granting him a comprehensive understanding of what is needed at each phase of a company’s development, along with a clear grasp of industry applications and market dynamics. As Chairman of the UK Industrial Vision Association for ten years until 2015, board member of Automate UK until 2019, and board member of the VDMA Machine Vision Association for nine years to 2024 (the last three as Chairman) his connections and commitment to fostering industry collaboration are clear. In his role as VDMA Chairman, he delivered the opening address at the VISION trade fair in Stuttgart, the industry’s flagship global event. Mark founded Pinnacle Vision, which merged with Vortex Vision to form Firstsight Vision, building it into the UK’s largest value-added distributor. After selling the business to Stemmer Imaging in 2004 as their first expansion outside Germany, he joined the senior leadership team focusing on product and market strategy. Under his tenure, the company completed numerous further acquisitions and an IPO in February 2018, growing into the largest business of its type with 15 regional offices across 20 countries. Mark stepped away from the company in 2024. He now works as a consultant with Vision Markets, the leading advisory firm for the machine vision industry, and serves as Editor-at-Large for MVPro magazine where his recent market analysis articles have explored the industry’s trajectory into 2026 and beyond.
